Specialists for the marine sector
WaterProof B.V. is a specialist consultancy and service provider for the marine sector. We support our clients in the preparation and execution of marine projects by providing specialist expertise, high-quality services, and solution-oriented advice.
Hydrodynamics and Morphology
The behaviour of water and sand has fascinated us from an early age; as children, many of our colleagues built castles, dams and forts on the beach with little shovels. We have turned our hobby into our profession and still see the coastal zone as one big (water) playground. We have since become dedicated specialists in water movement, sediment transport and seabed behaviour in estuaries, the coastal zone and offshore.
The little shovels have now been replaced by larger tools: sophisticated numerical computer models, our own flow and wave flumes, jetting and dredging basin, and survey and measurement vessels.
Underwater Sound and Marine Mammals
Underwater sound levels related to human activity are rising worldwide. Growing shipping traffic, seismic surveys for oil and gas exploration and the installation of offshore wind farms all contribute to this increase. And that brings challenges. Marine life depends on sound, and our activities can be harmful. WaterProof specialises in underwater sound; providing insight to our clients and help them minimise the impact of their activities on marine life.

Sediment transport pathways along the south-east coast of Florida
The US state of Florida has over 2,000 km of coastline, featuring a mix of beautiful beaches and coral reefs. The south-east coast borders a wide strait, the Florida Strait, through which a strong current of warm water flows northwards. Further north, this Florida Current feeds into the Gulf Stream, which ultimately brings us the temperate climate of western Europe. Along the south-east coast, the coastline is indented by several sea inlets and access channels leading to harbours.

LIFE MareNatura
The LIFE MareNatura project is the largest marine biodiversity project ever undertaken in Greece. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the project focuses on the conservation of nine endangered species of marine mammals, sea turtles and seabirds. By mapping biodiversity hotspots in the Ionian, South Adriatic and Aegean Seas, the project aims to extend the Natura 2000 network and strengthen marine nature management in line with the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030.

Research Facilities: taking sand and water to the next level
Not all parameters can be measured effectively in the field. That is why we have developed our own research facilities, where we carry out experiments at both scale-model and full-scale level. Our experiments include water flow around piles and structures, wave run-up, erosion and sedimentation, and scour development near structures. After all, what could be more enjoyable than working with sand and water?
We have the following facilities at our disposal:
